Measure the thickness of your mattress and add 2” or 3” to that number.   This measurement will be used to determine the “pocket” or “gusset” depth you require in a fitted sheet.  The extra inches provide for shrinkage and eliminate stress on the seams which would eventually cause holes. 

“Shower cap” construction, meaning elastic all the way around the fitted sheet, is optimal.
